Christian Education

The Christian Education program at Holy Family is an on-going process of spiritual formation that endeavors to help all people explore and deepen their faith and develop and use their gifts for ministry and outreach.  Children's Church, J2A, adult Sunday classes, retreats, Vacation Bible School, a variety of weekday study programs, and training for lay leadership in the church are all part of the educational ministry.

The ministry encourages all Christians, adults and children, to discover a stewardship of life-long learning that will result in finding specific and practical ways to live out their Baptismal vows.  In March 2004 parishioners enjoyed a Faith Stories Weekend.  The weekend, designed to bring a time of reflection, encouragement, and refreshment to parishes that are in the search process, was a great success.  We hope it will be the beginning of a yearly special event for the parish.

The new Way of the Cross was established around the lake in time for the first walk on Good Friday, 2004.  This contribution to spiritual contemplation was a combined effort of the Education Ministry, the Brotherhood of St. Andrew, and the Grounds Committee.

The adult program continues to present a variety of excellent offerings.  The Seeker Class, which meets on Sunday mornings, is augmented by programs and studies offered on weekdays.

The nursery is open for loving care on Sundays (9:00-12:30) for children of parents attending Sunday School and Worship Services.  In addition, care for infants and toddlers, is often available for church-sponsored activities.

Our popular Children's Church, conducted simultaneously with the 10:30 service, allows children to leave the sanctuary and have their own "service."  During Children's Church, participants have their own liturgy, sermon, and prayer time.  They return to the sanctuary at the time of the Peace in order to take part in the Eucharistic feast.

Sunday School at 9:15 AM is attended by young people who want to learn more about what it means to be a Christian.  Seasonally, we offer Christmas and Easter celebrations specially designed for young people.  Summer brings Vacation Bible School, which is attended by children from the church community, the neighborhood, and grandchildren of parishioners.  Since we have a small group of children of our own, we are proud of our VBS that serves between 35-40 children in the summer months.

Journey to Adulthood (J2A) is a three-tiered program of spiritual formation for grades 6 to 12.  Our young people enjoy fun and fellowship while building a foundation of Christian principles and memories.  Over the past year, they have experienced a variety of activities.  Besides learning and playing together, they take part in several outreach programs such as the Hunger Walk and "Souper" Sunday.

The Holy Family Library is designed to serve our church by supporting, strengthening, and broadening the teachings and programs of our faith.  The specialized collections of this library undergird the doctrinal teachings not generally found in public or school libraries.  It is an important part of the ministry of the church.
